Creative Facilitation Training
I develop bespoke training for organisations looking to build their facilitation skills, creative practice and teamwork. I offer specialist training for organisations working with young people or in education, with a focus on arts-based, trauma-informed practice, centred around youth people’s needs.
Where to start?
A facilitation training might focus on 2-3 of the following areas, which can be adapted to your setting:
-
No more worksheets or power points!
Learn how to embed creativity into any sessions you are designing and facilitating.
Get people moving, making and talking to each other, whilst still having purpose.
-
Learn how to ‘hold space’ for a diverse range of participants.
Build skills for asking meaningful questions, facilitating discussion and managing complex group dynamics.
Develop a toolkit for structuring sessions and scaffolding earning in an engaging and inclusive way.
-
Explore the ways we can set up a space that helps all participants feel welcome, recognising the barriers different people might have to engaging.
Understand the importance of boundaries as a facilitator: Explore the balance of being authentic whilst in a position of power.
Develop a reflective practice and debrief culture that supports self-care and growth.
-
Learning to really listen!
Deepen skills for 1-1 supportive relationships, with a focus on building trust and honesty within the boundaries of a role.
Practice communicating instructions and feedback in a neurodiverse-inclusive way.
-
Understand how trauma can impact young people’s behaviour, and how to develop an approach that puts young people’s needs and wellbeing at the centre.
Explore the core foundations of youth work, and what ‘automatic positive regard’, empathy and compassion looks like in practice
Draw on models such as ‘Non-Violent Communication’ to support with managing conflict.
-
Critically reflect on the embedded power dynamics of mainstream educational spaces.
Explore theories of education that give participants/learners more agency.
Go deeper into exploring ways of empowering learners and creating “classroom communities”.
